‘The Rose Garden’ Mural at Rochester Corn Exchange
At the start of lockdown Luna was overjoyed to receive the commission from Medway Council to paint a twenty-foot mural at Rochester Corn Exchange.
This was Luna’s biggest commission to date and was a true labour of love.
‘The Rose Garden’ mural is inspired by both an ancient Persian poem ‘The Conference of the Birds’ and Luna’s own artistic journey.
In the poem, all the birds of the world gather in search of a sovereign, who will reveal the mysteries of life. It tells of a very human struggle, both physical and spiritual, towards enlightenment. By the journey’s end, a divine ocean is reflected back, in which they see themselves, each other, and the whole of creation.
Luna has created the mural through a method called ‘Automatic Painting ’, a process of mark making that connects to the unconscious mind. She is fascinated by birds and has been guided by them her whole life. They find their way into her artwork, each one telling a story of love, loss and hope for the future.
